Pioneer at Ōtau Ridge Village

Resident greeting her neighbors

"Tis three months since I entered my villa at Metlifecare, and I have loved every minute of it. Living here is a new season of my life and it's fun.

After owning the Clevedon Animal Farm, where there were so many visitors, I wondered how I would cope being on my own. Well, I reckon I have had as much or maybe more in the way of social life than ever before. Going out to lunches with friends and family, meeting new people is reflected by the not-so-welcome roll, just above what used to be my waistline!

They have open days here, and the one today had many visitors, plus a couple who arrived after the staff had gone, so I invited them into my villa, and we got into playing the piano and had a delightful time together. I hope this couple takes up a villa.

The villas are all at ground level which is a big plus for seniors. Ōtau Ridge will be one of the smaller retirement villages around which will keep this lovely country atmosphere.

My new neighbours, who are coming to live next door soon are delightful, and even offered to assist me should I need any help. Wow! How's that for an introduction? Everyone here I have met are younger than me. They will appreciate the walking tracks and parklike areas which are being developed.

The village is on the main road, and we are two minutes from the shops. The doctor and vet are just over the road. Arlo, my dog, is not fussed about that but happily trots along beside my walker to church every Sunday and often lies upside down in the aisle until the last hymn.

The amenities block at Ōtau Ridge has a beautiful outlook, a dining room with luxurious furniture, and the same in the lounge area. For me, the theatre complex with its comfy lounge chairs is just the best I have seen.

A hair salon, wellness room, plus all the offices and reception area, has to be seen to be believed. There is a wide terrace right around the whole complex.

When I get older and more doddery I can go into the new care centre which I am told is spacious and has units each with their own small balcony.

Clevedon Animal Farm was very attractive, and having the animals made it special for me. However, the change to this amazing place in Clevedon, which has the loveliest staff, is a blessing to me and could be to you too, if you are in the happy senior years of your life."
