Metlifecare announces first retirement village in Hawkes Bay
Metlifecare Limited today announced the purchase of a site in Havelock North, where it will be building the company’s first retirement village in Hawkes Bay.
Metlifecare’s Head of Development Matt Wickham said the company intended to invest around $125 million in the 4.69-hectare Brookvale Rd site. “We are excited about securing this unique site with its stunning views of Te Mata Peak and close proximity to local amenities and wineries. It ticks all the boxes for a premium retirement living destination,” he says.
Mr Wickham said the new village would help meet the needs of senior New Zealanders in one of the country’s fastest-growing areas.
Hawkes Bay has become a desirable area to retire due to its climate, local events, and quality of life. We know that people of all ages and stages are choosing to move to the region for the lifestyle benefits it provides, and there is significant demand for exceptional retirement village living.
We are confident that the bespoke village design and residential living experience offered by Metlifecare will ensure that this village is highly competitive and sought-after.
A new village also means that more family homes are likely to come onto the market, which is good news for people looking to buy their first house or a home in the region.”
Mr Wickham noted that while a number of other retirement living options were also being developed in the area, there was strong demand for retirement villages with a full continuum of care and this demand would be on-going.
An increasing number of Kiwis, who are looking at a retirement village for their next move, want the comfort of knowing that care is available on-site should there be a time when they may need it. We’re looking forward to building a premium retirement village, with that outstanding level of care included, that residents will be proud to call their home now and into the future,” he says.
The proposed site will take Metlifecare’s total number of sites to 29 and is likely to comprise around 150 independent living units; including villas and apartments and a premium care centre.
