Metlifecare residents enjoy an underwater virtual reality tour

Metlifecare recently ran a series of virtual reality (VR) events in a number of its villages, taking residents on an experiential journey under the sea – without leaving the comfort of their seats!

Thanks to an underwater VR programme run by BLAKE (formerly the Sir Peter Blake Trust), they were transported to the heart of New Zealand’s most stunning landscapes through VR headsets. Residents experienced swimming with dolphins and stingrays in the depths of marine reserves, to the peaks of Mt Cook.

For many, the experience was more than just entertainment. “What was really neat about it was that not many of us get the chance to go under water anymore. So seeing the underwater environment right in front of you was pretty amazing,” said Gulf Rise resident Craiger Hargesheimer.

The session wasn’t just about reliving memories; it was a chance to spark new curiosity and connection. As the headsets came off, the room buzzed with excitement. “It just felt so real!” one resident exclaimed!
