Big picnic unites villages!
09 April 2025
Under the shade of grand old trees, with a soft breeze drifting through Hamilton Gardens, residents from six Metlifecare villages came together for a one-of-a-kind event—the Big Picnic. Close to 150 residents were in attendance, with some having travelled all the way from Auckland. The afternoon was all about good company, games, and music in a picturesque setting.
For Forest Lake Gardens Village Manager, Tamasin Richards, the day reflected the strong sense of community among residents. “It’s always wonderful to see our villages come together like this. The atmosphere has been just incredible —smiles everywhere, music in the air, and friendships being made. Inter-village events don’t happen every day, and so it’s extra special.”
Among the many attendees was Bob Armstrong, a Forest Lake Gardens resident, who came along with his wife Cynthia to be part of the fun. “It’s been a great day with all my mates. The best part has been all of us coming together for a good laugh in the sun!”
As the event came to a close, and ukulele melodies lingered, residents left the gardens with happy hearts and filled bellies. A big thanks to Pippa Bennett, Social Coordinator, for organising the event!
