More than 120 residents came together in August with a musical point to prove – they’ve still got the passion!

Together, under a Metlifecare roof, residents from seven different retirement villages across the Bay of Plenty took part in The Bay of Plenty Villages 2023 Music Festival.

Put together in the spirit of friendship and to celebrate all things musical, the festival brought together groups and individuals with an array of musical talents.

“It was an amazing opportunity for residents to showcase their talents”, said Event Facilitator and Bayswater Social and Regional Events Coordinator, Samantha Martin.

Hosted at our very own Bayswater Village, more than 120 performers, including Bayswater and Greenwood Park residents put on an inspiring show for a sold-out crowd.

“More than 400 people packed out the auditorium across two days and the vibe was electric!”

From ukulele to choir performances, the festival had it all - proving variety really is the spice of life!

A piano and vocal performance by Bayswater Village resident, Coreen Gray QSM who recently turned 99, was an ode to her lengthy musical career and talent.

“Music has always been a huge part of my life and it was wonderful to share this experience with other residents from across the region too”, says Coreen.

Each show ended on a high with the whole audience joining in with a mass choir.

“It lifted the roof off and was truly amazing. After eight years working in this role, I can confidently say this was the highlight!”, says Sam.

“To be a part of such a feel-good event and have everyone come together in such a special way, it was truly spectacular.”

And, it was all for a very good cause, with proceeds from the ticketed event donated to local charities, Waipuna Hospice and StarJam.

“We raised a total of $4,040. Everyone helped create a successful and meaningful day that spread joy far and wide beyond our villages.”

“It was the perfect opportunity to build connections and elevate the Metlifecare villages presence within the local community too.”

Will it return for 2024? Watch this space!
